Lourie Re-Elected Director

Lourie Re-elected to ASFE's Board of Directors

April 2006 -- Silver Spring, MD:  David E. Lourie, P.E., founder of Metairie-based Lourie Consultants, has been re-elected to the board of directors of ASFE/The Best People on Earth, a not-for-profit trade association that helps its member firms "prosper through professionalism."  In addition, he was named Program Chair and will be responsible for coordinating the content of the organization's meetings in October 2006 (Chicago, IL) and April 2007 (Maui, HI).

Others elected to the ASFE board of directors are:

Registered as a professional engineer in Louisiana, Mr. Lourie specializes in geotechnical and environmental engineering. He has broad experience with various types of civil engineering and environmental projects in the industrial, municipal, and commercial development sectors. Mr. Lourie is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Council of Engineering Companies, and the National Society of Professional Engineers, and he has served as president of these organizations at the local level. Recently, he represented ASFE during negotiations organized by the US EPA to develop the proposed "All Appropriate Inquiry" rule for Brownfield developments and other real estate transactions. He also served several multi-year terms as chairman of the Jefferson Parish Technical Evaluation Committee. Mr. Lourie is actively involved with the New Orleans-area School-to-Career program and has been an adjunct professor at Tulane University and McNeese State University, and a lecturer at Louisiana State University and the University of New Orleans. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in civil engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He founded Lourie Consultants in 1992 after serving as president of an international consulting engineering firm’s Louisiana practice.

Established in 1969, ASFE is a not-for-profit trade association that develops programs, services, and materials its members apply to enhance their business practices. Members are professional firms that offer "earth engineering" and related applied science services, including geotechnical, environmental, civil engineering, biological, archeological, infrastructure security, brownfields revitalization, and construction quality assurance services, among others. Member firms’ technical activities must be under the full-time control of an individual who is legally and/or ethically bound to hold paramount public health, safety, and welfare.
